I'm absolutely thrilled to be heading out with you all on this grand Italian-speaking Swiss adventure ~ This is my first trip co-leading students, but I'm in my 19th year of teaching--a whopping nine of which have been right here at Tech--and I spent several weeks this past summer just a couple of hours east of Lugano traveling about Italy. I can't get back to the alpine region fast enough: utterly breathtaking! I've also traveled to and through Spain, France, New Zealand, Australia, and Japan.
Many of you may know me from our Communication & Issues of Diversity course while some of you may be more familiar with the Introduction to LGBTQ+ Studies course I teach for the Academy of Transdisciplinary Studies.
This summer, you'll have an opportunity to engage in an intercultural comparison of media produced in Switzerland and that in the United States, to speak with locals about their culture and rich history, and to reflect on your own cultural identity.
We've got a lot of great day-trips planned for you all as Jared knows a thing or two about the area, and on weekends, you'll set your own agenda.
I look forward to working with you!
Mr. Jared Woolly
Hello! I'm Jared Woolly and I am thrilled to co-lead the 2023 version of study abroad in the School of Communication! I led the trip in 2018, then was Dr. Howell's trusty sidekick in 2019. I'm excited to be a part of this again with Dr. Howell's generous leadership!
Some of you may know that I primarily teach courses exclusive to the Multimedia Journalism major, along with some electives open to Sports Media Analytics majors. I also occasionally show up in Visual Media. In fact, much of the course I'm teaching for study abroad is based in concepts you learn in Visual Media and Media Writing. I encourage you to take those two courses before our trip to Switzerland, but it is not a requirement.
I'm excited for the program. Feel free to drop by Shanks 142 and say hi or email me at [email protected].
